Offering Beginner Piano & Ukulele Lessons
Hi, I’m Ms. Jenny! The owner, instructor, and your biggest cheerleader here at Home Sweet Piano. I’ve been offering one-on-one lessons since 2019, working with students from preschoolers to adults of all experience levels.
My journey as a musician is unique: I’m a self-taught pianist and ukulele player with a deep belief that anyone can learn to make music, regardless of age, ability, or background. This belief shapes every lesson I teach.
My goal is to offer an experience that feels playful, supportive, and completely tailored to each student’s needs. You’ll find no rigid expectations here; just a calm space to explore, learn, and enjoy the process.
My favorite part of teaching music? Watching students grow in confidence and discover their own musical voice.
When I’m not teaching, you'll find me cozying up with a good book, playing music for my family, or dreaming up new ways to make lessons even more fun.
At Home Sweet Piano, we believe music should feel like comfort, like belonging: like Home. The name is inspired by a simple truth; wherever the piano was in the house growing up, that’s where home was.
Some of my favorite memories come from afternoons on the porch, watching thunderstorms roll in, and the sound of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” echoing from the living room. That love, that calm, that invitation to just be; that’s the feeling we hope every student carries with them when they sit down at their instrument.
Whether you're three years old and curious about music or an adult finally taking that leap into lessons you've always dreamed of, Home Sweet Piano offers a space that welcomes you as you are. No pressure, just the joy of learning at your own pace in a relaxed, encouraging setting.
Every great learning experience starts with a strong foundation. At Home Sweet Piano, we use tried-and-true curriculum materials to support progress and spark joy in playing. Our core resources include:
While we focus primarily on classical training and fundamental music skills, we’re always open to incorporating a student’s personal taste. Whether that’s learning a favorite movie theme or a holiday tune for Grandma and the family.
At Home Sweet Piano, every lesson is built on the idea that music is for everyone. As a self-taught musician who grew up exploring the piano on her own terms, I understand what it means to learn outside of traditional boxes.
HSP welcomes students with all learning styles and other abilities, including but not limited to: ADHD, neurodiversity, physical or cognitive challenges. We work to meet students where they are, with patience and understanding.
Lessons here are relaxed, one-on-one, and always encouraging. We celebrate small wins, take breaks when needed, and create an atmosphere that feels safe to make mistakes, try again, and enjoy the journey. The heart of our teaching method is simple: connection over perfection. Growth over pressure.
Come as you are, we’ll make music together!
Ms. Jenny first picked up the ukulele in 2020, during the stillness of the world, finding movement and joy in music. What began as a personal challenge soon blossomed into a passion that now plays a key role in Home Sweet Piano. Today, Ms. Jenny teaches beginner ukulele to students of all ages, using the same playful and patient approach that her piano students love.
Ms. Jenny is an active member of the Northwest Indiana Ukulele Club, where community members gather to play, learn, and spread ukulele joy across the NWI Hoosier region. From small events to larger performances, you’ll often find her with her uke in hand and a smile on her face; encouraging others to try something new, just like she once did.
In this video, Ms. Jenny shares her heartfelt story — how she taught herself ukulele during a time of personal stillness, and how it became more than just a hobby. From the first chord to teaching others, this journey has been about connection, courage, and joy.
