Beginner Piano & Ukulele Lessons
Meet Ms. Jenny, the owner, instructor, and your biggest supporter at Home Sweet Piano. Since 2019, she has offered one-on-one lessons for students of all ages and experience levels, from curious preschoolers to adult beginners.
Ms. Jenny’s path as a musician is a little different. She’s a self-taught pianist and ukulele player who firmly believes that anyone can learn to make music; no matter their age, background, or ability. That belief is the foundation of every lesson she teaches.
Her approach is playful, supportive, and customized to each individual student. Lessons are pressure-free, inviting learners to explore music at their own pace in a calm and encouraging space. What brings her the most joy? Watching students build confidence and find their own musical voice and talent.
At Home Sweet Piano, we believe music should feel like comfort, like belonging: like Home. The name is inspired by a simple truth; wherever the piano was in the house growing up, that’s where home was.
My favorite memories come from afternoons on the porch, listening to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” echoing from the living room piano. That love, that calm; that’s the feeling we hope every student carries with them when they sit down at their instrument.
Whether you're three years old and curious about music or an adult finally taking that leap into lessons you've always dreamed of, Home Sweet Piano offers a space that welcomes you as you are.
Every great learning experience starts with a strong foundation. At Home Sweet Piano, we use tried-and-true curriculum materials to support progress and spark joy in playing. Our core resources include:
At Home Sweet Piano, every lesson is rooted in the belief that music is for everyone. Students of all learning styles and abilities are welcomed; including those with ADHD, neurodivergence, and physical or cognitive challenges. The goal is to meet each student where they are, with patience, flexibility, and encouragement.
Lessons are relaxed, one-on-one, and focused on creating a safe space to explore. Small victories are celebrated, breaks are always okay, and mistakes are seen as part of the process.
At the core of the teaching philosophy is a simple but powerful idea: connection over perfection, growth over pressure. Students are encouraged to come just as they are; and together, music will follow.
Ms. Jenny first picked up the ukulele in 2020, during the stillness of the world, finding movement and joy in music. What began as a personal challenge soon blossomed into a passion that now plays a key role in Home Sweet Piano. Today, Ms. Jenny teaches beginner ukulele to students of all ages, using the same playful and patient approach that her piano students love.
Ms. Jenny is an active member of the Northwest Indiana Ukulele Club, where community members gather to play, learn, and spread ukulele joy across the NWI Hoosier region. From small events to larger performances, you’ll often find her with her uke in hand and a smile on her face; encouraging others to try something new, just like she once did.
In this video, Ms. Jenny shares her heartfelt story. How she taught herself ukulele during a time of personal stillness and how it became more than just a hobby. From the first chord to teaching others, this journey has been about connection, courage, and joy.
Whether you're ready to begin your musical journey or have a few questions, Ms. Jenny is here to help.
